NEXT STEP TOWARD WORK OR IMMIGRATION TO CANADA

OFF-CAMPUS WORK PERMIT
By obtaining an off-campus work permit, a student may be able to work in Canada for 20 hours a week, during the school year, and full time during school holidays. Also, spouses and common-law partners of international students are usually able to obtain a work permit while their partner studies in Canada.

POST-GRADUATE WORK PERMIT

Upon graduation from a post secondary institution, where the student has studied for a minimum of two years, international students are able to obtain a three year work permit. If the graduating student has been able to work for 12 months in a skilled job or management position, they are able to apply for a Permanent Residence under the Canadian Experience Class.

ADVANTAGE TO IMMIGRATE TO CANADA (PERMANENT RESICENCE):

Upon graduation and working experience in a Canadian company, students can be eligible to apply for immigration to Canada (see Canadian Experience Class).  Also, EACH PROVINCE PROVIDES PRIORITY ASSESSMENT FOR PROVINCIAL NOMINEE APPLICATION FROM SKILLED WORKERS.

FAST-TRACT APPLICATION TO PERMANENT RESIDENCE: MANITOBA PROVINCIAL NOMINEE PROGRAM FOR INTERNATIONAL STUDENTS
Beginning in 2011, international graduates from a post-secondary educational program of at least two academic years at a Manitoba institution will be able to apply immediately to the provincial nominee program in advance of receiving an offer of employment. Previously, international graduates could only apply to the Manitoba provincial nominee program after working for a Manitoba employer for at least six months. As part of the changes, international students applying for the fast-track program will also enrol in an employment-readiness program upon completion of their studies. The program will include job readiness, career coaching and job-matching services.
